Refugee Resettlement Information

Note: Private social media has incorrectly communicated that the County Board would be voting on the refugee resettlement program at its regular County Board meeting on January 21, 2020. There is no County Board agenda item today to take action or seek public comment on the refugee resettlement program at this time. The Executive Order on State and Local involvement in refugee resettlement and the Minnesota Department of Human Services Refugee Resettlement program is available on the Mille Lacs County website and the Mille Lacs County Facebook page. Please access the Mille Lacs County website and the County Facebook page for information on future County Board meetings and topics.

The Executive Order on Enhancing State and Local Involvement in Refugee Resettlement (13888) does not require each county to vote on refugee resettlement. Rather, this Executive Order allows each county to identify if it offers the best environment for refugees, while also being respectful of those communities that may not be able to accommodate refugee resettlement. The County is not required by law to hold a meeting or vote on refugee resettlement.

The January 21, 2020 County Board meeting agenda will be posted by Thursday, January 16, 2020, and be available on the County website. At this time, there are no plans for public comment or a vote regarding the refugee resettlement.

You may find additional information on the Refugee Resettlement Program on the Minnesota Department of Human Services website at mn.gov/dhs/partners-and-providers/program-overviews/refugee-resettlement.

You may also review the Executive Order on Enhancing State and Local Involvement in Refugee Resettlement (13888) on the White House’s website at www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/executive-order-enhancing-state-local-involvement-refugee-resettlement.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please reach out to the Mille Lacs County Administrative Services Office at 320-983-8218. Thank you.
